We’re Going on a Stawberry Hunt!
This week I joined Stayathome Paediatric Care Support Workers, Hayley and Louise, on a strawberry hunt with one of our Holiday Care clients. We escaped the Cornish rain and headed to Mitchell Fruit Garden, off the A30. There were plenty of fruits to pick (and perhaps taste!) but the strawberry tunnels caught our eye first.
With our empty punnet at the ready, we set off in search of juicy strawberries. We were amazed at the sheer size of the polytunnels and worked our way through the rows, methodically picking the ripest fruit. Stawberry picking is hungry work and It’s safe to say not all of our harvest made into the punnet!
We spotted a host of wildlife among the plants, including wasps, bees, butterflies and even a robin! Our foraging soon paid off and in no time our strawberry punnet was full to bursting! We soon left the polytunnels in search of more juicy treats.
On our walk around the farm we discovered all sorts of fruit. We may have accidentally munched on a few raspberries, currants and even some wild blackberries growing nearby. Who can blame us, they made the perfect lunchtime treat!
Soon it was time to go but there was still one thing left to do. We proudly presented our jam-packed punnet to the farmer, who weighed our produce. We left with spirits and stomachs full to bursting! What a great way to spend a few hours outdoors, sampling some of the best fruit Cornwall has to offer!
